The internet relies on a mechanism called the Domain Name System (DNS) to function, by translating/linking easy-to-remember domain names (like example.com) into numerical IP addresses that computers use to connect to websites.
This behind-the-scenes process ensures you can simply type a web address into your browser and access the desired website.
There are different types of DNS records that provide specific instructions for your domain. Here's a look at three of the most common ones:
- A Record: It links a domain name to its corresponding IP address.
- CNAME Record: It directs visitors to another domain name, which in turn has its own A record.
- MX Record: This record is crucial for email, it specifies the mail server responsible for handling incoming emails for your domain.
