This article aims to explain the Private Networking configurable option when ordering a dedicated server.
This feature is available on supported dedicated servers and allows you to add an additional layer of privacy and performance to your virtual infrastructure.
It is an ideal Add-On for clients whose setup requires high security private communication between multiple servers, isolation from the public internet or optimization of internal workloads.
Private networking establishes a virtual LAN (VLAN), which is an isolated network segment that connects your servers with an internal infrastructure thus bypassing the public internet.
This can be useful if you have multiple servers and need a VLAN segment that allows for secure communication between applications, databases, and services.

You should consider this type of infrastructure if you answer "yes" to one or more of the following:
- Are there activities in my workflow that could benefit from an isolated network?
Activities such as database replciation, private storage or backup solutions, internal APIs or microservices can greatly benefit form a dedicated private VLAN. - Is this setup going to meet my security and isolation needs?
Having a separate communication channel from the public internet reduces the attack surface, making it ideal for businesses that with strict security requirements or regulations, such as those in the healthcare or finance industries. - Will I benefit from the improved performance?
In case you choose a dedicated port (1 or 10 Gbit), the internal communication between servers won't be affected by public internet traffic.
This results is faster, more consistent performance for critical tasks.
This can be especially important in large-scale applications that require guaranteed bandwidth and low latency. - Is scalability important to my use case?
If you need the flexibility to expand your network as your application grows.
You can expand your internal operations with more servers, which has a minimal impact compared to the higher cost of public-facing infrastructure and its related bandwidth costs.
If you think this setup would benefit you, select your preferred delivery method for the VLAN during checkout. Choose from the following options:
- Over the current uplink (shared) port: this uses the same port as your public traffic, so take note of the maximum bandwidth limitation.
- Over a dedicated 1Gbit port: private traffic is isolated at physical level, ensuring consistent bandwidth within the VLAN
- Over a dedicated 10Gbit port: same as the above option in terms of physical seppartion, and a better option for workloads that require high bandwidth withing the VLAN
How to order:
The Private Networking add-on is available for dedicated servers that support it, during the checkout process in your preferred location:
Romania
Iceland
Finland
Netherlands
Please note that compatibility with private networking delivery methods may vary depending on the server model and generation of the hardware.
You can check which methods are supported for your selected model before ordering.
